Pick a start date and enter a number of business days.

The start date itself is day 0: one business day after Friday is Monday. No public holidays are removed. Choose U.S. federal holidays to remove them.

How business days are counted

Each calendar day is checked in turn: Saturdays and Sundays are skipped, and so is a federal holiday if you chose that option. Everything else is a business day. When adding days, counting starts the day after the start date.

FAQ

Monday to Friday. With “+ U.S. federal holidays” selected, the federal holidays are taken out as well.

Businesses set their own days off, so if yours closes on other days, count them out by hand.

No. Adding business days starts counting the next day, so 1 business day after a Friday is the Monday. When counting between two dates, the end date counts and the start date only counts if you tick the box.

Example: 1 business day after Friday, October 30, 2026 is Monday, November 2, 2026.

23 weekdays, or 22 once Christmas Day (Friday, December 25) is taken out.

Eleven a year, set by 5 U.S.C. 6103: New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Jr.’s Birthday, Washington’s Birthday, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas.

When one falls on a Saturday, federal employees get the Friday before off; on a Sunday, the Monday after. The calculator uses those observed days, exactly as the Office of Personnel Management lists them.

Mostly, but not always. The Federal Reserve does not move a Saturday holiday to Friday, so banks may be open on a Friday that federal offices take off.

State holidays (such as Cesar Chavez Day or Patriots’ Day) are not included either. For a court or contract deadline, check the rule that applies to it.

The holiday table covers 2025 to 2030, the years OPM publishes. Outside those years only weekends are removed, and the result says so.

Not yet. Choose “Weekends only” and subtract your local public holidays yourself. We only add a country’s holidays when we can take them from an official government list.
