Bowling score calculator

Type each frame with X (strike), / (spare) or the number of pins. Your running score updates as you go, with where each bonus came from and the highest score still possible.

Rules: traditional ten-pin scoring. Checked October 28, 2026 (sources). Free, no sign-up, nothing you type is stored.

Rolls by frame

Each line shows the frame score (with its bonus) and then the running total.

Why a perfect game is 300

Nine strikes in frames 1–9 plus three in the 10th make twelve in a row. Every frame is then 10 + 10 + 10 = 30, and 30 × 10 frames = 300. Eleven strikes followed by 9 pins gives 299.

Reading a scoreboard

Each frame box has small boxes for each ball and a big running total underneath. X is a strike, / a spare, - a miss and F a foul. A box stays blank after a strike or spare until the bonus balls are thrown, which is why this calculator shows “…” there.

FAQ

Add the pins knocked down in each frame, plus bonuses for strikes and spares.

Strike (X)
10 + your next two balls
Spare (/)
10 + your next ball
Open frame
pins from both balls

A strike is only scored after your next two balls. Scoreboards leave that frame empty until then.

Example: X then 7/ makes the first frame 10 + 7 + 3 = 20.

A strike or spare in the 10th frame earns extra balls (two after a strike, one after a spare). Those bonus balls only count toward the 10th frame.

Example: X81 scores 10 + 8 + 1 = 19.

Twelve strikes in a row make every frame 10 + 10 + 10 = 30, and 30 × 10 frames = 300.

F

The small boxes show each ball; the big number underneath is the running total.
